American Whitewater is pleased to announce Bill Hildreth as our February 2011 Volunteer of the Month!

Bill is a key player in a group of paddlers working on the relicensing of a dam on Vermont's Green River.  Bill represents the Vermont Paddlers Club and American Whitewater in meetings and works closely with AW staff on written comments and filings.  Bill was also instrumental in the recent explorations of this Class III-V river.

Working on a dam relicensing is not for everyone: it takes years to see results, can be frustrating and challenging, and can put a lot of miles on your car.  With this said, there is likely no better tool for restoring ecological and recreational values to rivers impacted by dams. Bill has approached this daunting process with ease and excitement and has been great to work with.  As a small national organization we simply could not be effective without people like Bill.  Behind any dam release you paddle in New England is a great volunteer or team of them.

2011 looks like it will be an exciting year on the Green River.  A flow study is currently being planned, and we hope to learn a great deal about the operation of the dam and availability of flows.

Thanks Bill, and Congratulations!

In recognition of his efforts, Bill will be receiving a Kokatat Destination Shirt!
