Hanley just called on his way south for the weekend and just wanted to let everyone know that the Cumberland is "big, brown and flowing strong" @ 2pm today.

USGS shows it @ 776 cfs and rising: [tinyurl.com]

Usually this time of year the lake covers up most of the good drops but since they are still working on the dam does anyone know for sure if the lake levels are still low enough to expose the last drops?

Oh yeah. It'll be low until 2012. I'm watching the Rockcastle, though.

B6 Those drops are all exposed about at 690' including Bark Camp Creek Rapid a new class II addition to the Cumberland about a mile down from last drop. The native american fish weir is also a small "rapid" that can be seen now too even further downstream. As Larry mentioned before the river is slowly reclaiming itself from the silt and sand bars the lake has allowed to collect and is mostly rock bottom all the way down now.

I bet both the Rock and the CBF will be there at decent levels all weekend. Looking for late Saturday and Sunday runs probably on the Rockcastle. I would love to see it about 1500CFS or bigger! If the Cumberland gets above 10K then I am there instead.

also Based on the Corbin outflow (inflow into Laurel Lake) I bet the Laurel will let some water out at some point. My estimate will be about 11PM - midnight one evening this weekend smiling smiley

The new info on Wolf Creek Dam is its basically getting new dam built inside of it and wont be finished until 2012.

I have to go to Somerset one day this weekend, so I'm up for either Rockcastle or Cumberland. There looks like a better flow on the Harlan gauge, about 1200 cfs, but I don't know how much of it will hold until Saturday or Sunday. If the level is below 800 cfs, I game to hiking in at Surfers and running it from there if anyone is interested. If it's above 1000, I could be talked into running from the falls.

The Rockcastle looks like it's coming up to a more non boat abusive level, but I don't think it's going to go over 500 cfs.

And as Jason noted, everything plus a couple extra are exposed right now. It's really a river again
all the way to the takeout.

Larry,
I am up for a Saturday run. Gotta be just a day trip since I am a bachelor (this week only) and have two old dogs to look after.

I'd like to get in on some of this semi-local boatin' too...haven't done either the Rockcastle or Cumberland, so if you dont mind leading a virgin down, and we have water, then I'm game.

I am shooting for a late afternoon couple of laps on the Rockcastle on Saturday but wont be able to meet until after I am done about 4-5PM. The more the merrier Brandon they are both fun runs! We put on at Beech Narrows giving those who look at it and want to run it a chance and those who dont can catch all the carnage (at least 50%) on camera.

Sunday is fair game for whatever is best.

Looks like the Cumberland is going to be there at a great level for the weekend... and through next week.

*I should add this is contingent upon me getting my stitches removed tommorrow from a pretty serious run in with a glass storm window. Its killed my plans all week but I will be damned if I will let it keep me from at least getting a run in at some point this weekend, If not I am shuttle bunny drinking smileyand maintainer of ice cold beverages.smileys with beer

Looks like the Cumberland is at 1170 cfs.

I'm a little too timid to run the Rockcastle, but if you guys run the Cumberland I might join you, if you don't mind (and if I don't head to the Pigeon).

Thanks,
Bethany

I would be interested in CBF run. I have never done that. I would need to follow someone who knows what they are doing.. I can only go on Saturday as well.

I also would like to paddle on Saturday. I need to be back in town by like 5-6ish so whoever wants to charge down with me for the day holla. I'd prefer the cockrastle but will take what I can get at this point.
