Yeah, that weekend is pretty much a wash. That's why I suggested the end of August. From September 5th through the end of October you'll be fighting an uphill battle trying to get folks to sign up for a WFA class.
If we can't do it by the end of August, I feel we should make it a priority to get it done sometime in early November. No sense in throwing away $600 of club money, especially considering that the organization has been very, very accommodating.
FYI: Gauley Season always starts on the first Friday after Labor Day and Labor Day is the first Monday in September. This year Labor Day is on the 1st, giving us an early Gauley Season. GauleyFest usually falls on the third weekend of Gauley Season. Gauley Season runs for six consecutive weekends. The first five are 4-day weekends (Fri-Mon) and the last one is a two day weekend. Release on Fridays and Mondays is sometimes a bit less than the Saturday and Sunday releases, depending on how much water is in Summersville lake and how the ACOE feels about it.
Bridge Day on the New River (when parachutists jump off the bridge) is always the third saturday in October. In recent years, the ACOE has given us an extra day of release on the Sunday following Bridge Day if Bridge Day weekend does not overlap with the last weekend of Gauley Season. Because we are off to an early start of Gauley Season there is not an overlap, so Bridge Day weekend may very well offer an additional opportunity to hit the Gauley.
