CALGARY - A 34-year-old man is dead after drowning Tuesday night while canoeing on the Kananaskis River. RCMP say the man was wearing a life jacket and helmet, but got tangled up in a rope from the canoe. The rope got caught in rocks and the current was very heavy, dragging him under. The group he was canoeing with eventually freed the man, and emergency crews at the scene tried to resusciate him. He was taken by STARS air ambulance to Foothills Hospital in Calgary, where he died around 10:40pm. The family of the victim is asking that his name not be released.
