Ariz. Woman Dies After Raft Overturns In SW Colorado

CORTEZ, Colo. -- An Arizona woman has died after her inflatable raft overturned in high water on the Upper Dolores River in southwest Colorado. Montezuma County Sheriff Gerald Wallace said the body of 40-year-old Jeanne Haylett of Flagstaff was found Monday not far from where the raft capsized a day earlier. Wallace said investigators believe she drowned. Sheriff's Lt. Ted Meador said one other person who was in the raft was able to swim to safety. He said the raft capsized in rough water about 200 to 300 yards from where it was launched. Haylett's life preserver was found downstream Sunday night.

Monday’s accident happened the day after high water flipped a raft and killed an Arizona woman on the Upper Dolores River in southwest Colorado. Montezuma County Sheriff Gerald Wallace said the body of 40-year-old Jeanne Haylett of Flagstaff was found Monday not far from where the raft capsized a day earlier, according to The Associated Press. Sheriff’s Department Lt. Ted Meador said neither foul play nor alcohol is suspected. Meador said one other person who was in the raft swam to safety. He said the raft capsized in rough water 200 to 300 yards from where it was launched. Haylett’s life preserver was found downstream Sunday night.
