BLUE RIVER — A Salem woman died after her raft overturned Sunday on the McKenzie River, hospital records show.

The victim, Autumn L. Lee, 33, was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield after Lane County sheriff’s deputies and medics responded about 4 p.m. Sunday to a spot along the river between Blue River and McKenzie Bridge.

Lee was on a group outing when her raft entered some rapids and became stuck against a tree. A second raft struck her raft, sheriff’s Lt. Dennis Ewing said. At some point, Lee was dragged underwater. She was later pulled from the river and taken to shore, where others tried to resuscitate her, Ewing said. She was unconscious when transported to the hospital, where she died Monday.

Lee was one of two people who died last weekend on the McKenzie River. About four hours before the Lee’s accident, Tacoma resident Sheldon Cross died after his drift boat overturned near Finn Rock, officials said.
