| Summary: | By August 9th the Clackamas River near Portland, Oregon was running at 700 cfs, a pretty low level. According to Mike Jolley of the Oregon Kayak and Canoe Club, three paddlers were running the river below Bob’s Hole just before 3:00 pm. There Ryan Philbrick, paddling an inflatable kayak, flipped and swam. He washed up against a large rock and apparently caught his foot. One of his friends threw him a rope, but he could not hold on and disappeared underwater. Rescue crews were summoned, and they recovered the body at 7:20 pm. |
