| Initial Report: | Local newspapers reported that the family of 37 year-old Chris Kulcheski became concerned when his square-stern motorized canoe was found floating upright on the Lower Delaware River near Easton, Pennsylvania without him. He was taking a long solo trip down a section he had done many times, and had called his family on July 30th, hours before the empty boat was spotted. His dog, a shepherd mix, was still riding inside the canoe when it ran up against the Pennsylvania shore. A massive search ensued, covering the river for miles downstream. State Troopers told Gene Berliner, a local paddler, that there were a number of empty beer bottles in the bottom of the boat and that they suspected that alcohol might have contributed to this tragedy.
