Summary: Fast current and icy water also proved to be a deadly combination for two paddlers on Ohio’s Maumee River. According to the Toledo Blade, on March 16th Arthur Sexton, 72, and Homer Turner, 67 were fishing for walleye in an 18-foot fiberglass boat. They decided to drop anchor in the swift current. The water poured in over the transom, swamped the boat, and dumped the two men into the icy water. One man was wearing a life vest and the second man was holding onto one as they washed past startled downstream fishermen. Rescue squads were called; one man was found dead, and the other disappeared.
