Feather Releases (CA) In Jeopardy

The North Fork Feather River needs your support!

As you may be aware, releases on the Class IV Cresta reach have been canceled for July and August and possibly for the rest of the year. We feel that these cancellations are based upon some dubious assertions about the impacts on frogs from release flows. We intend to challenge these cancellations and restore the releases on the Cresta reach. You also may be aware of the fact that AW and the Chico Paddleheads are planning to hold the Feather River Festival at the August release. Some have suggested that we cancel the Festival because we will not have water on Saturday. We feel that it is important that we make a statement that we will not be deterred. We need to show the resource agencies how important this resource is to members of the whitewater communities. So please come up and show your support! The Feather Film Festival will happen on Friday, August 25th, at Belden. We will have Chuck Lees with his Local Liquid and new footage from Ben Stookesberry of Ashland Mines Productions, a slide show from Taylor Robertson, highlighting flow studies on the South Fork Feather and other great runs in the Feather drainage. We expect to have some showings from other well-known kayak video producers. Saturday Paddle Heads will have their annual slalom race on the Cresta reach and a down river race in the afternoon. Saturday night will be the Belden Bash in Belden Town. This year we have gone R&B with the Blue Marvels rock’n the house. The Rock Creek release will happen on Sunday as always. Come out, have fun and show that you want your river back!
