From the organizers:

Eastern Washington University’s Epic Adventures, Post Falls Parks and Recreation, NWA, and the local Clubs/Shops of Spokane are enthused to announce the Fourth Annual Spokane River Kickoff. This event received so much positive feed back in previous years, that a group of kayakers from the community just had to get together to make things happen again this year. We are looking forward to this year's event, as the event and participation continue to grow.

We are currently seeking sponsors who will help us make this a successful event! Specifically, we are looking for items that can be raffled off and to provide swag at the completion of each competition. Examples of such items would be PFD’s, Paddles, Helmets, Gloves, Bootie’s, Hats, Layering, Dry bags, Throw Bags, Coffee mugs, T-Shirts, or anything that you feel is appropriate. All funds raised at the event will be donated directly to Peak 7 Adventures (peak7.org).  In exchange for these valuable items you will receive advertising for your company in the advertising prior to, and during the Spokane River Kickoff.

The Spokane River Kickoff will take place on Saturday April 17th at Corbin Park from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Admission for the event and activities are all free to anyone that wishes to participate.  We expect 200 or more participants (not counting vendors and club representatives) this year. This event typically attracts new and experienced kayakers of all levels looking for a good time getting together as a community and warming up their skills for the upcoming whitewater season.

Participants can expect free BBQ, free Demos, and free Kayak/Rafting Instruction.  There will be activities such as a Down River Raft Race, Head to Head Kayak Boater Cross, and Throw Bag Competition.  We will have representatives from our area clubs, Colleges and non-profit organizations available for participants to explore how to become more involved in the river community and to discover what these organizations have to offer.  Examples of who will be present are: Mountain Goat, Mountain Gear, NRS, Spokane Canoe and Kayak Club, Northwest Whitewater Association, Friends of the Falls, Peak 7 Adventures, EWU Epic Adventures, Spokane River Rescue, Flow-Adventures, Drago Rossi Kayaks, Nookie Gear, Hydrology, and more.  We are also working to coordinate with the Center for Justice and the annual National Whitewater Film Festival Spokane Showing.
