New Strainer in last rapid of the devil's gorge section. A tree is across the entire river about
halfway through the section. We easily portaged on the left. It is clearly visible and easily
avoided.

FYI--There was a recent fish kill (8/2/08) on this river that is currently under investigation by
the DEP. It is thought to be an unnatural fish kill and involves several species. Pollutants are
being looked into. There are no current advisories to recreational users of the river, but I
thought a "heads up" might be appreciated by the boating community until this is resolved. Edit
As of 7/24/2008 there is a large impassable strainer blocking the entire river left passage of the
river when going around the island which is 2 bridges after the wastewater treatment plant on river
right. This one looks like it won't come out from natural flow. Additionally there were several
other strainers on the river but the one by the island was the only once which couldn't be passed
