Hello everyone,
I am trying to find pics of the Lower New River in Wva. at high water (9-13 feet) for a project I am working on.
Anyone out there have some they could share?
Thanks,
David B

David,

What sort of project are you working on? If it's non-commercial, I think can help you out.

Hi Matt,
I trained last year to be a raft guide on the New River and as part of my interest, I had started preparing my own "study guide" of sorts. I was thinking that if I could get some more information together, it could help some others to learn about the river faster instead of just repetition from training runs. At this time, I don't have any plans to sell what I'm working on if that's what you are meaning. I have descriptions, notes, and some pictures of most of the rapids, but the New looks so different at the different water levels, I thought it would help to try to get pictures of as many as I could at high water too in case trainees have to run it at high water. With a section on safety, glossary, common signals, and some other small sections, I have 64 pages so far. Not really book length-more like a booklet, but that's where I am right now.
There are commercial rafting companies sort of involved, but they have not asked me to write this and are not paying me. If you wanted, I could include citations under any pictures with your name or companies' name if you feel you can share any pictures with me.
Thank you for your time,
David Barkley

David,

Cool. We have some in our photo/video database, of varying quality. Here's what I was able to find:

Fayette Station, 9.9 ft
Upper Keeney, 14.7 ft
Double Z, 13.5 ft
Double Z, 13.5 ft
Wolf Creek, 13.5 ft
Meat Grinder, 13.5 ft

(Thanks to Mike Norvelle, who posted most of these high-water video captures!)

These are © American Whitewater. I believe that may use them under standard "Fair Use" guidelines, but you certainly can't sell or redistribute them. As you show them to people, please be sure to credit AW and the individual photographers.

Good luck with your project!

Matt

Thanks for the links Matt!
I will look into these and see if I can use them.
And thanks for the well wishes for the project.
It is around 11 megs so far-attempts to email
it have failed due to size.
Go big!
David B
