This post from Gene Counts.

Hey All:

Long anticipated meeting of Friends of the Russell Fork will be held next Thurs at 6PM at the Haysi Town Hall.

We want to introduce Chris Eberly new FORF OSM/VISTA. Chris has just spent his second day on the job. Chris would like to ask you why everyone is driving 20MPH faster than he is on these Dickenson County Roads!

Topics will include Haysi Sewer Plant, water quality monitoring, new office at Home Ec Cottage.
Need you there to discuss our meeting with Army Corps of Engineers who have agreed to meet with us in April or May.

We are starting to make a huge difference. Only your input will keep us going.

See you then.

Scratch that Winchester meeting place. I am meeting up with a couple of Southern KY boys in London and heading up that way. Hoping to get a low water run in on Friday before I have to be back to work the NPFF. If anyone is interested send me a private message (Reply via PM on this page) or email me.

This just received from the Army Corp of Engineers:
Brent

This email has been addressed to individuals and organizations whom have
expressed interest or been identified as potentially having interest in the
operation of the Corps of Engineers, John W. Flannagan Dam.

The Corps of Engineers (COE) will convene an advisory panel comprised of
those interested in Flanagan operations after the 08 Whitewater season. The
purpose of this panel is to allow feedback to the COE regarding current
operations and studies evaluating future changes to operation. The COE hopes
that through the discussions between the different interest groups John W.
Flanagan Lake can be operated to best utilize this resource.

In attempting to best Flannagan releases, the COE investigated shifting the
time of the Fall Whitewater releases one half hour later in the day.
However, it appears that this shift would negatively impact some users of the
release. Until this conflict can be further discussed, no changes will be
made to the release schedule. It can be found at
[www.lrh-wc.usace.army.mil]

As some of the key participants will not be able to participate in the panel
until after the Whitewater season, the first meeting will be scheduled after
the season closes. An invitation will be sent to all parties later in the
year.

Thank you for your interest in John W. Flannagan Dam

Brent,
As you know, I'm very interested in doing whatever I can to help secure future summer releases ... at a usable time (i.e. not 8pm - 4am) on the RF. How does one get invited to this meeting? What can we as a club do to help negotiate a reasonable plan?

Wes, there is plenty you and the club can do to facilitate. First thing is the club party/RFRR as a forum to raise awareness of the potential for eco-tourism in the area. There are folks in Frankfort we need to bring to the event out of the governor's office. There is much to be gained by bringing attention to the event and the BWA. I will loop you in and anyone else that wants to help. Yes, we need manpower on all fronts.
