So I know all yall have great opinions. How about giving my your best opinions on the fastest and safest (lots of snow forecasted) way to get to Snowshoe, West by God Virginia?

I know Dustina it’s no Colorado but a Central kYer has to get his down hill fix.

14. Take ramp onto I-75 N go 0.6 mi 10.8 mi
15. Take exit #111/WINCHESTER/ASHLAND onto I-64 E go 169.4 mi 180.2 mi
16. Continue on I-64 E (Toll applies) go 110.7 mi 290.9 mi
17. Take exit #169/LEWISBURG/RONCEVERTE go 0.3 mi 291.1 mi
18. Turn LEFT on US-219 toward MARLINTON go 60.7 mi 351.9 mi
19. Turn RIGHT on SNOWSHOE-CASS-GREENBANK RD(WV-66) go 0.7 mi 352.6 mi
20. Bear LEFT on SNOW SHOE RD(CR-9/3) go 5.5 mi 358.1 mi

I always went up 79 to the second exit (or first but watch out for the cops) past US60 and summersville and head towards webster springs. yes, it's curvey and does involve mountains but is nearly always clear because its the only road to clear. you end up in valley head, so if you need more info let me know, but it's a lot of by god WV so fill up before!

PS, watch out for the cops in webster springs too, very slow speed limit that extends beyond the city. also, if the weather is mild and the Elk is running there are some nice park and play options along the way.

have fun!

Leachman, call Jackie Eggers, she's headed up there with her kids today. I'll send you her cell number off list.

We are heading out at noon tomorrow for three nights and two days of skiing. Looks like the conditions are going to awesome! I’m so stoked! hot smiley

Is Jackie staying on the mountain. We are because of the breast feedings and easy access. Hook me up with some digits.

I agree w/ Dustin. I felt 79 was the shorter/quicker route. Roads have the potential to be a little worse and they are not "main roads" so that's why yahoo and others send you towards Beckley and up. But as a boater you're used to that stuff.

On a side note, we stopped at a gas station off of that exit one time and a local gave us another shortcut in somewhere around Webster Springs. The road turned into a one lane dirt road for a long way until it finally let out where we needed to be. Don't follow that suggestion if you get it from someone.

Ledgeman, With a small kid in tow, I would go the 219 way. The i-79 way might be faster if the roads are clear, but will be much slower if they are not and the curves are pretty relentless. Also, pit stop places are few and far between that way. As for the Webster Springs way I wouldn't even think about it - if it's the road up the Williams that comes out on the Scenic Highway both are closed and snow covered in the winter.
