Barry, George
Probably no way to know for sure. After all, it is possible to contract an infection from chlorinated pool water. Even that isn't entirely sterile. After all, if the treatment is drastic enough to kill all bugs, it will kill the swimmers, too. All the water-quality testing is meant to minimize risk, but clearly cannot eliminate the risk. Paddling has its risks, and nasty little bugs is one of them.
As far as I know, my New Zealand guest who participated in the Kentucky river roll sessions was completely unharmed. But then, those Kiwis are another, heartier breed entirely :-))

Chris,
I´m glad the you and Barry know so much more about a sickness that I lived through. The primary physician, the lab and the infectious disease specialists I dealt with should all seek counsel from the both of you.

I coined a phrase for MENSA a year ago: intellegocentric, it might apply here.
