Please see the post in the Keep Our Rivers Flowing section of BWA website. If you would like to volunteer or have comments or suggestions, please post those there. This post is just a reminder.

Allen,
Kelly and I will not be able to helpout as I had originally intended. She´s still out of commision and the hospital scheduled me on this weekend. Sorry man, I was really looking forward to it. That section of river is incredibly beautiful.

Anyone who has the time and has never seen the Red should sign up to help, and get a look at what I think is one of the most pristine stretches of water in Kentucky.

I was planning on helping the viking club on may 10 simply because I heard about their cleanup first ( hint, hint) but I have never been to the red and I would much rather hang with you guyssmiling smiley

However, my hand is still open and being packed with tape twice a day for at least another week so my mobility is limited. On elkhorn I know what I am in for. How is the red and what level of paddling is required the day of the cleanup?

Heather,
Given the water level, it was 40 cfs as of this morning, there will be more dragging than paddling. You would be a very welcomed addition. Besides, we are more fun to hang out with than those Viking guys (just kidding). Don't take any chances with your hand, but if you are OK it would be great if you could hang out with us.

Heather (and all),
There is much more to dragging a boat down the river to volunteer for the RRG cleanup. With the droves of shear bearing BWA members wanting to scalp poor J-Bobber and render the newts homeless, there will be a need for shuttle drivers aslo. Remember this is one of the longest shuttles in the area, so the support crew is very important also! Somthing warm/cold at the takeout to drink is always a treat. Others who can only make a partial day can easily show up at the one lane concrete bridge in the afternoon with gloves and trashbags and still pick up as much from the camping areas up to eagle's nest and help the depleted river cleaners take the garbage from the boats to the trailer.

I am sad to report that, unless we get more volunteers, JBob's beard is safe.

As of today, I only have 8 volunteers for the Red River Cleanup and some of those are friends of BWAers. I know that we, the BWA, can do better than this. Russ Miller, who has spearheaded this event for many years, puts in a lot of time gathering trash and tires into piles to make the cleanup more efficient. I feel that if he can spend so much of his time to give back to the river, then us spending one day helping out is not a big commitment.

It is not often that you get the opportunity to make a difference in your environment and see breathaking scenery at the same time. I am asking you to join me and the other volunteers this weekend. I need to hear from you by Wednesday afternoon so that I can give Russ a headcount. He and I need to work out shuttle arrangements as the shuttle is around 45 minutes one way.

I'm guilty.

Allen, I can't do the heavy lifting, but I'll ( sign up to ; ) help with shuttle as needed. Conditional but I think I can do this and still go to Louisville to see MOM if I put off Louisville 'til Sunday.

Maybe the Wife too, but that'll be last minute.

I have a small car so gas there and back won't be too bad. Its not helpful - however - for passenger efficiency !
