Bylaw Voting

This is a post of the email that I sent two days ago. Please help get the word out and encourage people to vote so we can have an election everyone feels good about. I will also be sending out a reminder letter as we need to have this issue resolve by next Tuesday.

The BWA has decided it is time to revise a few of our bylaws. There are many others that may need updating but the ones that are up for a vote will effect our upcoming election at the June regular meeting. There are three separate votes that need a response from you, the BWA member. In order for any one of them to pass, we need a majority of the membership to vote YES.

I have attached a copy of the current bylaws which will help you to understand where these changes fit in. Each issue is a simple yes or no vote. Please take the time to vote!! Votes need to be in ASAP.

Voting by email: Simply compose an email to the following address (bwavotes(at)gmail.com) with a subject line that indicates your vote for each issue or for all issues. In the body of the letter, please confirm your name, address and a phone number.

You will also get a chance to vote at the May meeting but you can only vote once. Thanks in advance for taking the time to help us make this important change.

Issue #1

Article IV: Membership and Dues

Section I:--No Change

Section II: Any two adults, living as a household, can join as a family membership and be granted all the rights and privileges of two individual members. Anyone under the age of 18 currently living in the household of a paid member, family or individual, is given all the rights and privileges of membership at no additional cost except the right to vote.

Section III: Formerly Section II--No Change

Issue #2

Article X:

(Currently Reads) Those entitled to vote shall be members in good standing when dues are paid. Individual members shall have one vote.

(Change to) Those entitled to vote shall be members in good standing when dues are paid by the end of the May meeting. Individual members shall have one vote.

Issue #3--There is currently no provision for absentee voting in the bylaw

Article V: Officers and Their Elections

Section I: No Change

Section II: No Change

Section III: No Change

###Vote To Add###

Section IV: Absentee ballots shall be received before the day of elections in a manner determined by the Steering Committee.

So, I just noticed that, technically, the right to vote is described as an "additional cost" of BWA membership. But since this will be interpreted by humans and not computers, I am sure the meaning is clear enough. In fact, I kind of like the double meaning. In a sense, voting might be more costly to some of us (emotionally) than the 25-bucks smiling smiley

Okay, I am going to send in my email vote of yea for all three.

I resent the mass email today to try to encourage more people to vote. If anyone didn't get it or the other emails I've sent, please let me know either by posting here or sending me a private message.

I am going to be at the Red cleanup this weekend but if anyone wants to help get the word out there are people who need to be contacted. If you know anyone who hasn't gotten word please let them know. We've had about 15% of the club respond so far. It's a start but we need and I know we can do better.

I think that the easiest way to collect the votes at the meeting on Tuesday will be to ask that people vote on their way in. They can confirm that we have their correct information and submit their vote. I will be their early to do this and if it seems appropriate or neccessary to anyone, I will print out the emails that I've received and bring them as well.

Thank you to everyone who has already voted!!

Hey Mello:
Okay, I read that as "I resent the mass email today". I guess I have come to expect negativity on the forum smiling smiley)
I am not finding that email that you resended. I checked my regular email box, and don't see it. I checked the junk box and all I find there is lonely people wanting me to call, and huge lottery winnings for me to claim (no wonder people want me to call!).
I already voted by email, so maybe you just left me off the list for that reason?

John,

Nothing here either. I got the one yesterday from where I had private messaged you a couple of days ago. Please know that I do not resent your resent of the e-mail. And I hope that you do not resent having to resend as that would lead you to be a little resentful or the resent mail.

Did anyone get the one I sent today? The subject line read "Red River Cleanup & the BWA needs your help" or something to that effect.

I got it Mello. Will there be a vote at the meeting? Seems like you could get at least thirty or so votes there?
