Barry and I have a 3 bedroom, 1 bath home on Westwood Court (which is across Nicholasville Rd. from the football stadium) that will be for rent very soon. It has an awesome fenced back yard, new appliances in the kitchen, garage(perfect for storing boating gear), and also boast the largest red oak tree in Fayette County (UK forestry dept. can apparently verify this). It is partially furnished, or the furniture could be removed if you have your own. This neighborhood is a fairly quiet cul-de-sac within walking distance from UK, but is mixed with students, faculty and community. Westwood Ct. backs up to a very cool city park as well. If interested, please send me an email or post here.

Allen, Lexington does not have a combined sanitary and storm sewer system. The problem is that many homes and businesses illegally connect downspouts, sumps and basement drains to the sanitary instead of stormwater drainage. When you get a big rain, the extra inflow overwelms the secondary biological treatment portion, which is designed and sensitive to the amount of inflow material, so the excess is diverted around that phase of the treatment and mixed with the maximum outflow from the secondary treatment. It all then goes through the third step, which in Lexington does include disinfecting. So it goes through the filters to remove all the chunkies, garbage and sediment, all that is possible though the biological filters, then all of it through the thrid stage sedimentation and disinfection.

At least in Lexington, they don't release "raw" sewage, but they do release partially treated sewage during high water events. If they aren't being violated, they are maintaining TDML at the discharge end during high water events. Some of the older plants like the old one in Wartburg didn't have a three stage treatment and did release raw sewage into the river.

I'm more concerned about the crap washing in from the roads, farms, yards etc during high water, which isn't treated at all.

Russell,
It was Ken Cooke that spoke to us that night about water quality and sewage. I think what Ken meant that night was that when a heavy rain hits Lexington the storm sewers are overwhelmed, that overflow water then gets into the sanitary sewers. When an area floods, there is nothing to keep the floodwater from entering the sanitary sewers via the manhole covers. At least that was my understanding of what was happening.

Not sure how accurate the data is but
Most of the data was compiled by the Environmental Protection Agency. Additional data was obtained from state and local officials or from official documents related to an enforcement action.
. If nothing else it is a quick way to learn about the treatment facilities and capacities in your area. I thought at the monthly meeting a couple times back the fella that came to discuss water quality said Fayette regularly discharges raw sewage when we get rain above an inch or so.. maybe I misunderstood. If they did or do this there's no record of any enforcement action that I could find.

For those of you who might be Republicans and support Mitch McConnell in his quest to remain a Senator from KY - this message is not for you - at least not yet:-)

However, for you Democrats who, like me, have been discouraged about the apparently weak crop of Dem candidates who, no matter which one won the nomination were all probably destined to be slaughtered at the polls this November by McConnell (the poster boy of big money and truly ruthless power politics) I just want to give you a heads up on a candidate running for the Democratic nomination for Senator that you may not have heard about and might consider voting for in the May 20th primary - Greg Fischer.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IG_B3frsfmA

Maybe I'm just like the boy at Christmas time who found the proverbial bucket of horse manure under the tree, yet still believes this means there's a live pony out in the yard somewhere but.... I just can't help but be optimistic about this candidate. I'm inspired by his message and convinced that with enough grass roots support Greg Fischer could actually give Dems their first real chance in a long time to beat Mitch McConnell in November.

For more info, here's Greg Fischer's home page: http://www.gregfischer.com/

Russell, I think they're talking about sea kayakers primarily, or even exclusively. Unfortunate because most folks won't make a distinction. A big problem there too is that the vast majority of people don't seem to look at sea kayaking as risky whereas they look at whitewater kayaking as borderline suicidal. Of course, the approach you take to either one is going to largely determine the level of safety and this stilted attitude is one reason why you have problems like newbie sea kayakers not wearing pfd's. A casual attitude is as dangerous as a gun.

Caught this article in USA Today entitled "Kayakers keeping rescue crews busy". I found it interesting that according to ACA "kayaking is growing faster than any other outdoor activity on land or water". My take on the tone of the article is that kayakers are bothersome to maritime officials because they "take us away from other high-priority missions, like maritime security" (yet in the same article they conceed of the 710 boating-related fatalities in 2006, 27 were kayakers). Another theme is about how kayakers should be required to take boating safety courses. Supposedly the #1 thing we do wrong is not wear a lifejacket (I'm thinking paddle-jacket-skirt-helmet-boat). In any event, there's not a thing addressed in the article that I haven't learned by having been a BWA member, so, thanks for the education; hopefully we won't ever have be required to carry a "kayaking license" or anything similiar..

Yeah, really good cases often have a tunnel attached to that side vent to shunt air directly to the processor. Thing about that though, the manufacturers of cool looking after-market cases and the manufacturers of CPU's differ on their ideas of how a case should be ventilated.

Ultimately I think what you're doing will be fine as long as the main exit point for air is out the back. Hence, try to fix it so air is not cycling back out around the edges of your new hole. Best airflow is across the entire motherboard, front to back.

Hanley its the THERMALTAKE wingrs 101 VG8000BNS. The proc fan I bought is a coolermaster and I couldn't have imagined the size of the thing, didn't even dream it'd be as big (tall) as it was. Only after I mounted everything on the mobo and then mounted the mobo in the case did I realize the top of the processor cooling thing (fan, fins and pipes) was sticking 1/8" out of the side of the box. So that's where I'm at. That's why I plan on cutting two ovalish holes in the side of the case (there's already like a "grill" in the particular spot, so I think airflow for the box will be comparable). I understand the dremel tool is capable of cutting steel so that's what we'll try tonight. Yes I will wear safety glasses. I hadn't thought about the gloves and other exposed skins so those were good suggestions. I'm wondering if I should use higher rpms or lower for the disc on metal violence?

If I didn't have a jig saw or a sawsall, I would attempt it with a dremel tool, but being that I do have a jigsaw, I would probably use the jigsaw to cut the hole and the dremel tool to smooth out the cut.

I usually wear safety glasses, gloves and try to cover all exposed skin to protect from flying parts of dremel tool bits or metal.

Pay attention to what Hanley is asking/suggesting.

I'm a little confused. At first I thought you were talking about a case fan and wondered why you didn't want to just replace it. Then I noticed you said something about pasting. I assume you are talking about the fan on the heat sink for the CPU, right?

So you're going to cut an intake hole into the side panel, correct? This may prove a bit tricky. You probably have to cut an oversized hole to allow the panel to slide into place. Additionally, if you are going to have a side vent in your machine, you want to channel it somehow so that the air goes directly to the fan (i.e. There is little or no room around the hole for air to flow back out of the case). Intel and AMD both recommend that airflow through your computer case should be basically front to back, in particular exiting the back. Venting your CPU fan isn't bad, but don't over vent it so that air can escape that way too. Try to make it all flow out the back.
