AW Reaches Agreement on Sultan River (WA)

American Whitewater has reached agreement with Snohomish PUD and other parties to the relicensing of the Jackson Hydropower Project on the Sultan River. The future proposed license will support whitewater boating on the Sultan River and in particular the reach between Culmback Dam and the Powerhouse known as the Upper Sultan.

The license for the Jackson Hydroelectric Project on the Sultan River expires in 2011 and the Snohomish PUD has announced the start of the relicensing process. The first public meeting will take place on November 4th, 2004.

Improvements to Sultan River (WA) Access

Snohomish PUD recently constructed a new bridge across the Sultan River at the powerhouse. This bridge eliminated the historic social trails to the water that provided important river access. Local volunteers met with the PUD to discuss the issues and a new trail has been constructed.

Sultan Access Restored (WA)

This week the City of Everett and Snohomish PUD announced that the Allen Gate, which controls access to Lake Chaplain Road will once again be opened on weekends from the hours of 6 am to 6 pm, starting this Memorial Day weekend. This gate has been closed on weekends since fall 2001.
