New Gauge for the Cascade (WA)

On June 8th a new gauge was added to the USGS real-time network on the Cascade River in Washington State. The new gauge was installed to provide additional information for flood forecasting but will provide a significant benefit to the regional paddling community.

This past fall, Skagit County completed work to remove hazardous debris from Bridge Drop rapid on the Cascade River.

About 40 years ago a steel bridge washed off it's footings and settled in the river approximately a quarter-mile downstream at what is now known as Bridge Drop rapid. Link to www.chrisj.winisp.net/ for more information about this hazard including excellent photographs of the site.
