New Shuttle For the Big Bend Run (CA)

Shuttle service is now available for the Big Bend run on the North Fork Feather River.  Lake Oroville is at its lowest level in years which is uncovering this run that is normally inundated by the Reservoir.  AW is looking for your feedback on this new shuttle service.

Tuolumne River is at Risk

The health of the Tuolumne River is at risk from a San Francisco proposal to take significantly more water from the River. The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) is proposing to divert up to 25 million more gallons of water per day from the Tuolumne, enough to fill 1,000 swimming pools, every day.

American Whitewater has signed another important settlement in California.  This agreement will restore flows, remove small dams and provide public flow information on the San Joaquin.

After years of planning, studying and down-to-the-wire negotiations, a settlement was signed on January 29th for the Upper American River Project and the Chili Bar Project. The settlement agreement signed by American Whitewater will breathe new life into the American River.

Feather Releases (CA) In Jeopardy

The August Cresta release for Saturday the 26th has been canceled. However the Feather Festival will go on as planned. There will still be enough water to hold the slalom race and down river race on Saturday, the Belden Bash on Saturday night. If you want these releases to come back you need to vote with your boat!

American Whitewater Signs Oroville Settlement Agreement

Continuing American Whitewater's quest to restore the Feather River the signing of this agreement makes AW, and our local club affiliate the Chico Paddleheads, the only Non-Government Organization that has participated in all of the Project Relicensing on the Feather River. The signing of the Oroville Settlement represents the culmination of a five year effort for American Whitewater. This agreement will provide access to Bald Rock Canyon and the Big Bend Runs. It also provides for a Whitewater Park Feasibility Study. Read more about this historic agreement.

American Whitewater files for Whitewater Releases on Upper North Fork Hydro

American Whitewater filed comments on PG&E’s application for a new hydropower license on the Upper North Fork Feather River.  American Whitewater has been working to restore whitewater recreation opportunities to the Belden Reach through the relicense process since 2000.  This hydro project dewaters whitewater runs upstream of the Rock Creek-Cresta hydropower project where American Whitewater already restored an annual schedule of whitewater releases.
