| Account | The boat ramp at the Wildlife Refuge is about 8 miles upstream of the bridge at Ouray. Launching here instead of at Ouray, adds an extra 1/2 to a full day of flat water paddling, but the wildlife viewing was nice. This is 3 to 5 days of flatwater paddling from Sand Wash.
To get here required driving several miles on a dirt/gravel road. A large sign states, "Boat Ramp". Even in late September, meat bees and wasps were a problem and several people were stung and/or bitten. Another view of the primitive boat ramp 8 miles upstream of Ouray, on the Green River. I believe this is the Ouray National Wildlife refuge. http://ouray.fws.gov/index.htm |
