We ran the upper portion on the same day the teenagers and other guy went I believe. We saw them at
Peter's Ford where we took out. We were there on Sat. April 11th though. We also were planning to
run Brewster to Burnt Mill but figured the upper section would be calmer since it's only rated
Class 1-2. Boy was we wrong! The section we ran (Gatewood to Peters) at 2400cfs now had several
class 3 (3+) which some were really technical trying to guide our tandem inflatable kayak through.
We also encountered 2 river wide strainers which had to be portaged on river right. They were in
places where the current was very strong. I would highly recommend scouting anywhere you see
whitewater and can't see around the bend! I'm sure this would be a beautiful run at lower flows,
however, we didn't have time for scenery; we were too busy preparing for the next rapid. I believe
this run is approximately 6 miles from Gatewood to Peters Bridge. We'll probably try again at MUCH
lower flows. Edit

We ran a portion of this section on April 10, 2009. We had planned to run Brewster Bridge to Burnt
Mill, but heavy rains had pushed the Robbins gauge up to 2400 cfs. Five teenage boys and an old
fart seemed a little risky. Put-in at Peters Bridge. Great water level for this group and this
section. Fun, but not overwhelming. Excellent scenery, big boulders in river, rockhouses, bluffs
and the occassional rapid. Great trip! Edit
