The nature of this reach is short bursts of whitewater, separated by scenic quietwater floats. Much of the whitewater is rockbed with some small ledges interspersed at the named drops.
Drops include Little Bull Falls(II), Big Bull Falls(II-III), Washburn Falls(III), and Jennings Falls(III). None of these are "falls" in the traditional, vertical sense. Little Bull is a curved ledge, which can become quite a sticky, boiling pourover. It has claimed a life 2008.06.14, at 340 cfs (Article here). Big Bull, Washburn, and Jennings are much more 'rapids' than 'falls'.
The run is commonly abbreviated to 5.1 miles by using the wayside park at the Hwy 101 bridge as a
take-out.
