River Description
Note: The combination of Steep banks and lots of dead red oak trees (thanks to
the borer beetle infestation) tend to clog the creek with wood from time to time, so keep look
out.
Put in: Take Dixon Ridge Rd. west off of Hwy 21 about 1.5 miles north of
Fallsville. This road is the same as the put-in road for the Hailstone run. About 2.5
miles down this road there is a small road turning to the right in the middle of a switchback
which leads to the Dahl Memorial wilderness access. From the turnout at the end, bushwhack
southeast about 1/2 mile to the creek. You're aiming for approximately elevation 1820 feet, where
two tributaries merge.
Take out: Hwy 21 bridge over the Buffalo River at Boxley.
The run on Adkins Creek is about 2 miles, however, you must paddle 11+ miles of the Hailstone run (which will be at flood
when Adkins is runnable) or hike out (which is not a good option).
See the description in the Ozark Whitewater Page.
