At 1,500 cfs the Pit 3 reach is reported to be a continuous Class III run with many high quality play areas and long wave trains. You can do this run in conjuction with the Pit 4 and Pit 5 reaches down stream. During the spring releases all three reaches will be running. It is possible that this reach may have some vegetation in the channel that has grown in since the flow studies were conducted in 2002. Also see the description in SIERRA WHITEWATER, MARTIN, 1974
Minimum flows are 150 cfs or a little more, year round.
Minimum flows will be 200 cfs (+/- 30 cfs) during the fall of 2009 till late December. This is due to some construction activity that required the use of a different outlet valve. Flows will drop back down to 150 cfs after the construction is completed.
There is no guage for this reach, however AW will be posting flow events on the release information calendar. When spills occur, flows will be estimated and reported manually. A real time flow gauge is scheduled to be installed in 2010.
