River Description

The Pit 4 reach is a nice class IV reach with many long rapids. The character is similar to the lower part of the Pit 1 reach. The Pit Canyon is very pretty and Bald Eagle sighting are common. Spring releases will be occurring on the Pit 3, 4 and 5 reaches as part of the new license that American Whitewater helped to negotiate. LOCATION.--Lat 40°58'25", long 121°46'42" referenced to North American Datum of
   1927, Shasta County, CA, Hydrologic Unit 18020003, unsurveyed, in Shasta National Forest,
   on right bank, 0.2 mi downstream from unnamed tributary, 0.6 mi downstream from Ruling
   Creek, 1.3 mi downstream from Pit No. 4 Dam, and 2.7 mi downstream from Pit No. 3
   Powerplant.
DRAINAGE AREA.--4,648 mi2, excluding Goose Lake Basin.
PERIOD OF RECORD.--May 1922 to current year. Monthly discharge only for some periods,
   published in WSP 1315-A. Published as "near Pecks Bridge" April to October 1922, and as
   "at Lindsay Flat" November 1922 to June 1927.
