A rugged exploratory trip featuring three gorge sections with numerous class V rapids that are a challenge to scout, mandatory portages, and potential wood hazards in a remote and inaccessible canyon.
Logistics
From Highway 101 at Hoodsport, turn west on Highway 119 towards Cushman Reservoir. Follow this road up along the reservoir and turn onto FR 24 toward the Staircase Entrance to Olympic National Park which is located at the head of the reservoir. The take-out is at the bridge. To reach the put-in, it's a 6 mile hike up the North Fork Skokomish Trail. Check with Olympic National Park for current trail conditions (call 360-565-3100 or check the current conditions link on their website).
