River Description

Stephen Strange contributes:
"The Pequest is a pretty class-II stream. At moderate levels it's a good beginner run which runs along a road and has plenty of access for short runs, or if there is a problem. There is an old diversion weir above Belvidere which is runnable but has a pretty strong hole which a beginner might want to look at. Their are also two dams in Belvidere which aren't really runnable, so boaters need to take out and carry through the middle of town for about 50 yds if they want to run the last rapid. The last drop is a nice class II and it is worth the carry; in fact, it's kind of fun to wait at the crosswalk in a small town with a boat on your shoulder."

Directions (also from Stephen Strange):
The Put-ins for the Pequest are numerous, but the most common is where Rte. 46 crosses the river in Great Meadows.
The last take-out is about a hundred yards down the Delaware on River Left. There is a fishermen's access. It has parking, and a trail to the water. This is also a good put-in if you're going to run the "Foul Rift" section of the Delaware. The Parking area is at the end of "Front St." See also Ed Gertler's book.

Gauge

Gauge Description:

Stephen Strange contributes:
Minimum level is 2.1' (200 cfs - ed.) on the Pequest gauge. I'm guessing that at over 4.5' (1000 cfs) there would be very little room under some of the bridges and boaters would want to be cautious.
