"Please stay off the Branch for now"
On Saturday a group of us were approached by a man from the club that leases the land around the put in for the Branch River in the Adirondacks. He said we didn't have the right to put in over their land. Despite our best efforts at explaining the law around navigability of rivers and the right to portage, he was adamant that we couldn't get on where the road crossed the river.
Rather than get into a fight, and get arrested (yet), we chose to paddle elsewhere and persuade them through legal means.
In the mean time, it would help everyone if no boaters were to boat the Branch by getting on at Niagara Brook, or anywhere else near Hoffman Club posted property.
I will keep the messageboard informed of any progress, and hopefully we can sort this out over the winter without any more loss of boating this great river.
Thanks
Andrew

just a heads up, if you put in at the map put-in you are looking at several miles of flatwater plus numerous log portages before the good stuff. its beautiful but it can be a pain. if you can possibly find a lower put in that is okay with landowners that would be preferable, but most stuff is posted.
