1. Alexander to Tenmile I-III
River DescriptionThe 3.3 mile section from Alexander to Alton has minimal gradient and this section may be skipped by using Alton as an alternate put-in. This is recommended especially if the stage is under nine feet. At stages above ten feet big river conditions start developing. The steepest mile is below Beans Mill. The take-out is at the bridge in Tenmile.

Lat/longitude coords are approximate, from TopoZone. StreamTeam Status: unverified

3 of us paddled from Aexander to Alton Sunday. About mid-way through the trip there is a massive river wide strainer that must be portaged. I'm sure you will see it before you get too close so you can get stopped, but we did it at aroud 6.2 ft which is a least 1ft below min. It might be harder at a high level.

This is a bueatiful stretch of river. At lower levels it is deceptively difficult. I put in at Beans Mill and took out at the rail road trussell below old Imperial (imperial is whare the steel cables still span the river) This is a very remote and awesome stretch of river. There are a couple of niice drops and a lot of twists and turns. I had to portage around one lodged tree about 1 mile below beams.A lot of drops come up suddenly and arent in sight untill your on top of them. this run merrits a 2-3 rating but its remoteness is a 10. The best put-in is at Bean's Mill, I've been told (and I was happy with it) but this is just an unmarked pull-off near a bridge. Bring an atlas. Combining this with the run downstream is nice; also, this run is much easier (Class 2-3) than is the next one downstream (up to Class 4+ or so). This is a quite-nice run.

Put-in at Bean's Mill from Sago: Drive upstream to fork at Big Bend Church. Left goes to Tenmile; right goes to Bean's Mill. Go straight past another left (back to Tenmile). Stay left at a fork; go up a slight hill. Stay left/turn left 90 degrees downhill at another intersection. The last turn is a 90-degree right turn, where there's a house with a very big yard up the hill to the right. There are two bridges at Bean's Mill. I've heard that this cuts out all of the flat water, leaving the best section. All that I can say for sure is that this section is enjoyable and moves steadily, never personally having been upstream.
