River Description

Shavers at Bemis USGS Gauge

This is a very beautiful stretch of river. Immediately below Bemis the rapids are nice III-IV for a mile or so of busy maneuvering. At some point things flatten out to I-II, giving you time to enjoy the stunning scenery. The river can be shallow in spots in the final stretch.

Robert Farmer---One day around 2005, give or take a little, a kayaker drowned on this section when torrential rains upstream sent a wall of water down the river. If I recall correctly, it was an instantaneous increase of about 2000 cfs, so be aware of weather conditions upstream; the watershed is pretty big. Edit
