River Description

Jelm Canyon on the Big Laramie River is a mild whitewater river. The river starts out as fast moving water with no rapids as it calmly flows behind several mountain homes. As the river pulls away from the road and enters into the canyon the whitewater pick up. There are several short wave trains and a few boulders in the stream. The rapids are generally Class II in nature but a few might be very easy class III rapids. There are numerous surfing waves and a few 360 holes scattered in the canyon. Eventually the river turns back toward the road and emerges from the canyon. Pay careful attention to the takeout as you can easily miss it and en up boating all of the way to the next road access several miles downstream.
