Hwy.28 to Sturgeon River (6.8 miles)Class II(III)
6.8 Miles
Avg Gradient 40 fpm
Max Gradient 79 fpm
River DescriptionRun includes 0.5 mile paddle out (with good current and I-II rips) on Sturgeon. Take-out is a campground on Sturgeon Gorge Road.Parallel watershed of similar size to the Rock River leads one to expect this to be a similar 'hoot.' In general, however, this one disappoints. Much of the early running is prone to snags, and there are more areas of flatwater. (Not sure how it manages to do that, and yet not have areas of bigger gradient which are notable.)
