River Description

This is a great spot to bring beginners to work on rolls, ferries, eddyturns, and pealouts.
LevelDescription
400-775cfsat this level you will have a small hole on river left that is good for side surfing, and a small wave just to the right of the hole. Eddy lines are ok at this level but a little shallow at the top of the eddy.
800-975cfsthis is the best level the hole has a 2 foot foam pile no vertical stuff still to shallow, 1 small wave/hole to the right of the main hole, and in the center you have a nice 2 foot wave. Good level for squirts!
1000-1250 cfsat this level the hole washes out. The wave is still there but its a little hard to stay on. Eddy lines are strong and deep at this level.
1350cfs and aboveat this level everything washes out.

Gauge

Gauge Description:

While the cited gauge may give a hint as to water levels, it will be affected by area rains.***THINGS HAVE SHIFTED ABOVE THE PLAY SPOT SENDING MORE WATER TO RIVER RIGHT THEN BEFORE. YOU WANT AT LEAST 700 CFS (from the spillway gauge) BEFORE MAKING THE TREK DOWN.*** A better measure for this playspot is the Spillway Gauge Army Corps of Engineers Fish Report. Scroll down to the TRINITY RIVER BASIN, and find the entry for GRAPEVINE.
