River DescriptionThe Tom Miller Dam is a park-and-play spot located on the Colorado River just off of Redbud Trail and Lake Austin Blvd. Dam releases typically occur during warmer months . Dam release information can be viewed at:
http://www.lcra.org/water/river_report.html
Put-in and parking is available in the Red Bud Isle Dog Park with an easy paddle over to a couple of standing waves.
A swim here is typically not dangerous but could be tiring. However there are plenty of places to practice flat water moves and for beginners to work on rolls, ferries, eddy-turns, and peal-outs.
BEWARE there is debris just under the surface, including concrete chucks with rebar facing upstream, for this reason many have stopped paddling at this spot.
Boaters recently removed the same type of debris from Longhorn Dam which means some kind souls may do the same for Tom Miller.
