River Description

The playspot know as "The Slab" can be found in this stretch below the reservior.

From Linwood:

The Slab and Eternity, both are on the East Fork of the Tuck. To get there from Waynesville, take highway 74 west to exit 85 towards Sylva. Travel a mile or so, to the second traffic light. Take a left onto route 107 towards Cullohwee. Travel for about 10 - 15 miles or so on 107. Just after an Exxon station on your left you will cross over the East Fork of the Tuck. Turn left immediately after onto Shook Cove road. Travel about 2 miles, you will start going up hill and around a few sharp turns. Look for a well used pull off on the right. The Slab is downstream about 50 yards from the pull off. There is a well worn path down the hill directly above the slab. The other hole Eternity is down stream about an eighth of a mile, a lot of people run down to Eternity and just walk back to the car up the street. The East Fork of the Tuck is dam controlled, but runs most days especially in the time when the Nanty is off.

The Phone number to call is 866-332-5253, listen for the report on the East Fork and that will tell you when it will be running.

Nantahala Power posts the generation schedule for three days (though myself and others have noticed they are not 100% accurate)
http://www.nantahalapower.com/nantahala/lakes/schedules/<br

Another note is that USGS has provided a new gauge about a mile from Eternity.

http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nc/nwis/uv/?site_no=03508050&PARAmeter_cd=00065,00060
The guages is within 1 hour from the dam.
