River Description

Tributary of the Ohanapecosh in the Upper Cowlitz drainage near Cayuse Pass on the east side of Mt. Rainier.

Although it can be tricky to catch, this creek has been run a few times. All the gradient is on Chinkook Creek in the first 2.5 miles, which includes two nice waterfalls--and 18' falls and 20' Stafford Falls. Both feed into nice pools and can be run if they're clean.

Best flows are usually between May and the beginning of July (while there is still snow up at Chinook Pass). If the waterfall on Chinook Creek that can be seen across the valley from the Tunnel on Highway 123 has a lot of water, this run should be decent.
