River Description

A tight tiny creek that features two covered bridges at the confluence of Buck Run and Doe Run. The first 1.5 miles features two II+ rapids, the second and larger of which was blocked by a strainer as of March, 2001.

You then enjoy the unforgettable experience of plunging through a mild wave garden as you pass under a beautiful historic covered bridge , with another covered bridge clearly visible to your right on the converging Doe.

Things mellow out a bit after the Doe joins, but you still have plenty of twists and mild drops, with the occasional strainer.

Towards the end of the run, you run up against a striking cliff with a stone house on top of it. The creek meanders through all of the points of compass around this obstacle, called "The Oxbow". The Oxbox has some very scenic historic ruins of a Civil War Era steel mill. Supposedly parts of the Monitor were fabricated there.

Take out on the bridge right before the Buck meets the Brandywine. Most of this run is on property managed by the Brandywine Conservancy , which allows responsible useage by hikers, bikers, horses and paddlers.

The putin and takeout are on private property. Ask at the nearest farmhouse to use the obvious gated putin.
