This is one of my favorite runs. However, it is an adventure to say the least. The hike in to the put-in is over a mile long, add in ten miles for the run itself, and a long shuttle, and this becomes an all day affair with lots of action and some difficult rapids that require some scouting for first timers, so come prepared. Large groups will want to take all of this into consideration and adjust their meeting times and schedules accordingly.
Did a run on Jan 18, 2006. Level was 1.4 or 1.6. I thought it was pretty dang high. The big three on the lower stretch were all a full notch harder at these flows.

Folks with more skills than me could probably run it over 2 feet with no problems.

The paddler's gage for this run is on the East Cowpen Road bridge. Its on the upstream river left bridge support. The bridge is 2 miles downstream of the take-out. 6" is probably minimum. My guess is that 1 foot is medium and 1'6" is probably high. I've heard of a group running it as low as 3", but that would be an ELF run (Extrememly Low Flow)

A good way to gage if the Conasauga is running is to check 02385800 HOLLY CREEK NEAR CHATSWORTH, GA. If it is over 450 cfs the upper upper is probably running.

P.S: the old Elbow Tree has finally rotted and fallen into the river. Its now useless as a gage for the river.

I think Hank Zachary and a small group may have been the first on this run back in around 1998?

Run this with a large group of 9 "not recomended" after Ivans flood. I noticed a few changes. When coming to the first island a very bad strainer mess has piled up on the left side of the island. It can be avoided to the right. A few new boulders have fell into the stream bed and the second island is not there no more.
