River Description

This is a stunning little gem 45 minutes from downtown Juneau. Motor out Stephens Passage and take a left at the Taku River. Pass Cooper Point and anchor up in Sunshine Cove. Note the; tide flat, muddy bottom, large tidal range and currents: anchor properly. There is an old cat track along river left. Keep the power line on your right and the river on your left and look for the easiest route. Put in about 45 minutes walk when the track, power lines and creek converge. What's up above? You could be the first to find out. From here down is a playground of wave trains and smiling pourovers. You are a long ways from EMS, but this is a tasty clear run for the silt soaked. The scenery has no flies on it either. During the salmon runs this is definitely a bear stream, so heads up!

Gauge Description:

This is a new run. Creek was full to the banks but not into the bushes. Maybe 1000 cfs.

Run in September 2006. Look for a level of 1' or more at Gold Creek in Juneau. On the hike in, if you have the option stay close to the creek.
