Rocketts Mill (Rte. 685) to US 1 II(III)
River DescriptionEd Evangalidi contributes:You can carry up and run the CL 3 rapid just above the putin through various interesting routes and then go downriver through easier but still pleasant whitewater. Watch for strainers and carry the big dam at the end. Culpeper gauge correlation is rough. StreamTeam Status: unverified

Couple of things I'd like to stress:
1. This stream has TONS of strainers, so be prepared to constantly duck and dodge branches in addition to constantly portaging around fallen trees.
2. Like Ed says, after the rapids upstream of the put in bridge you pass through mild whitewater with one class II at the end. Then it seems like you’ve gone past the fall line because there is a long flat section but there are actually two decent sized class IIs much further downstream.
3. The takeout we used was a dirt road used by Ashland Mill just upstream of the dam. The takeout is the South Anna river and Route 1.
4. Why is the Rapidan the guage for this river? The Little River or the South Anna River gauges seem like much better choices. .

I have a photo of the Class III rapid at the put-in that Ed mentions if the streamkeeper would like to add it to the page.
