River Description

(Editted info from "rstorz")
To get to the boardman: From Hwy.37 about 6 miles south of Traverse City, turn east on Beitner Road. Go about 1.5 miles to a little park with an outhouse.
The take-out is the wooden bridge you come to after a right-hand turn on the river.

"The only sketchy part of the river is near the top where you run a 50 yard section of rapids and eddy out on the right side due to a nasty strainer on the left. Since the river has been deemed a "Wild and Scenic River," cutting it out of there is out of the question.

There are two really nice playspots on the river. First, a wave near the top that used to be called "Stumpys" or the "Stump Wave" due to a large stump near the right side of the wave. (A recent storm has washed it downriver, although it did not affect the wave.) About a 100 yards downriver is a nice hole for surfing and spins. It actually gets pretty pushy when the water is up (170-200cfs or so). In between these waves are small wave trains and ripples."
