Green Cove Creek
AT/Virginia Creeper Trail III-IV+(V)
River DescriptionSmall and tight in places. Wide and cushy in others. One spot on this creek MUST be portaged. It is about 300 yards above the confluence of Green Cove and Whitetop Laurel. The creek goes through a really cool looking rapid.....minus the undercut on creek left that most all of the water is flowing under the rather LARGE diameter cable (like three strands thick) stretched from bank to bank. There is plenty of time to get out above this one, so don't get laxed and drop into it.
The rest of the creek is good fun creekin', lots of cool slot moves along with some other interesting rapids. There is one ledge that has a stiff hole at the base and is best ran on left center.
Be sure to check out all of the major rapids you can on the way in so they don't surprise you on the way down.
Keep an eye out for wood and the fishermen, other than that enjoy!
