River Description

The lower Peters Kill Creek is a basic, boat-scoutable ledge-drop creek. Most locals do this run several times in one day. It is definitely a step down in difficulty from the Upper Peters Kill which starts on the "other side of the hill," over in New Paltz.
The Lower Peters Kill is formed by pinkish bedrock and is a great introduction to creeking for many. It is able to be paddled in a playboat by someone who has a sold brace. We're talking autoboof the whole way down. Good fun!
This creek can often collect wood, but the hazards are usually seen in time to pull over and avoid them.
Only one real move that must be noted, towards the bottom, just a bit above the bridge- there is a rock along river right that must be manouvered around, an easy move but missing it could equal a very bruised elbow or a pin.

Paddlers can always run the river down to the Rondout and continue down to the dam (get out above it, duh), which will bring them to a sweet play run. Another option is to park on the river right side of the bridge and that can act as the take out. It would be unwise to have more than two cars there at the take out due to lack of space and the locals who own the property. They are pretty tolerant because in general they see the same few cars there all the time, but who knows what they would do if it turned into a parking scene with all the riffraff- so please be smart and respect the landowners.
