Tom's Creek to Hwy 32

Class III-IV
1.75 Miles
Avg Gradient 220 fpm
Max Gradient 275 fpm

River Description

Though probably not a destination in its own right, Cosby Creek has some fun boogie on it. Like a steeper and tighter version of Porter's Creek one watershed to the west, this run is fun when everything else is too high. Sometimes though, if you watch the rain, Cosby can come up when others may be only running low.

Like a miniature class 3+ West Prong, there is no break for the first mile, and even then it still holds a good pace. There might be 1 or 2 class 4's at low water, but higher it is class 4 continuous. Watch for wood, and that said, it is not easy to do so. Do a couple of laps.

Gauge Description:

Visual. If Big Creek and Middle Prong are both too high, then this is likely to be going. This one requires lots of rain and drops quick. Look at the creek at the Hwy 32 bridge. If it looks low, it is. If it looks high, it is.
