River Description

Put-in elevation ~ 715, take-out elevation ~ 569 (verified by GPS).
The breakdown is a mile at 20 fpm, the next two miles at 40 fpm, and the final mile-and-a-half at around 17 fpm. An alternate putin is upstream at the Kroger parking lot on St. Rte. 28, elevation 801ft (GPS N39' 13.781 / w 084' 09.793). Lat/longitude data of the putin and takeout are verified by GPS.

It looks like the gradient peters out not long after it passes O'Bannonville Road and the gauge. If the 'features' below that point are not all that interesting, and if there could be convenient access there, it could be worthwhile to just take out there for a run of about three miles at 33 fpm average.

Very Polluted!!

Gauge

Gauge Description:

USGS gauge at O'Bannonville Road. At present, there is only a year's worth of historical data, so analysis is sketchy.

That said, for that one year:
Maximum daily mean flow was 3,070 cfs!
Minimum daily mean flow was 1.2 cfs

90% flow was (90% of time it's above) 2.5 cfs
10% flow was (10% of time it's above) 186 cfs
Therefore the '10/90 Ratio' is 186/2.5 or 74.4
(This says (no big surprise) that this is a VERY 'flashy' stream, as opposed to one with 'consistent' or more 'steady' flows.)

May be boatable around 100(?) but probably better at 200 cfs. Likely to get pushy as things go above 1000 cfs.

I speak for local paddles since i live on the O'bannon and let me tell you the person that says there is nothing to paddle is very wrong i have paddled it atleast twenty times this spring and it is worth the time great surfing, nice holes allover at different levels 2ft is a min level great at 3ft kickin at four and up watch the gauge dont miss it. from gibson rd there is one large strainer about a mile in there is a small eddy to the downstream right hit that just infront of the tree and you can scoot through, after o'bannonville bridge about 3/4 mile river wide strainer it is slower section so just keep to right and squeeze through and VERY important just before the bridge at 48 in loveland at the last hole huge riverwide strainer twenty feet after hole its not worth it trust me exit to left rock shore and WALK if you dont know the river well keep your eyes open it is 2 miles from bridge at o'bannonville to the little miami and the strainer is less than a 1/4 mile from mouth so try to gauge it and keep your eyes open and if its runnin you will probably see me there Edit

There is no whitewater on this run except for one "play hole" that is not very good. If this is running then much better stuff in the area is running.
