according to the AMC Maine river guide, 2nd edition, Denneys bay has a tide current of 3 to 5 knots - I am unsure of the tidal speed in the actual rapids. Supposedly there is a large eddy with a large train of three foot waves on its line. The other part of the rapid (a second channel) has large waves and boils. It is published in the guide as class III in nature. It is important to note that because of the tidal influence of the near by Bay of Funde, the tides run over twice the range of the rest of Maine (averaging about 20 feet), and therefore create much more speed and energy per cycle.

The falls are very dangerous, the current I have heard, but cannot verify, has reached 10 knots in the area.
