Flow is regulated through the Amoskeag hydro-electric dam at the put in. There is usually enough water to run this section most of the year. Flows from mid July through late September could be marginal especially in a dry year. Call the recorded dam release phone line at (603) 634-3569 for a flow update. Flows on the Merrimack usually peak 3 to 4 days after a rain event. Forecast

Crack Pipe Rodeo
Brad Croteau has been doing a lot of work with the city of Manchester NH to get them involved in the idea of further developing the whitewater park at Arms Park a.k.a Crack Pipe. There is going to be a rodeo at Crack Pipe on Saturday July 14. Brad is asking people who'd like to paddle to get there at 9am so I guess the action will be a little after that. Our little group in Boston see this as a good opportunity to support Brad in his efforts to get further development at the site. I'm not intimately invovled but I know that issues that are being discussed with the city are water quality, augmentation of the rock that forms the eddy and the possibility of channeling the flow a little for the upper waves so that we can surf at a lower level. I believe that a release may have been negotiated to provide optimal flows for the rodeo. AW's site for Crack Pipe is http://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/River/detail/id/1175/ they also reference Rob's site which has some good directions http://www.rstiles.com/ne_pb/nh/crackpipe.htm Hope to see you on Saturday. I'll post any more information that comes up Michael
